A CPN, itself, is a credit privacy number. That's what a CPN is, it's a credit privacy number. It's a nine-digit number. A SCN is a Secondary Credit Number, and these nine-digit numbers, they're used in place of your Social Security Number to obtain credit and to protect your privacy.
Many people are worried about identity theft and they're trying to figure out how to protect themselves. The CPN and the SCN, these are a series of nine-digit numbers, you can use to protect yourself from identity theft as well as obtain credit. So that's the whole format of what is a CPN and SCN. CPN, a credit privacy number, and the SCN is a secondary number, which is a nine-digit number that's used in place of your Social Security Number to obtain credit. So that's pretty much the basis of what it is and the terms of how it's used. And the purpose of it is actually for the protection of your identity. Also to build up credit and understanding that people, many people are still not aware that you do not have to issue your Social Security Number out. Your Social Security Number is only to monitor your wages. That's the main protection issuance of the Social Security Number. It was not issued to build credit upon. It's the financial institutions that decide that they wanted to use your Social Security Number, basically, as collateral or to keep you obligated to your debts.
The Social Security Number does not have to be used to build credi. You can definitely use a CPN, a Credit Profile Number or SCN, Secondary Credit Number.
